How to Treat Acne with Natural Skin Care Products

by Abigail McKenzee

Puberty equals acne. Your hormone levels spike and sebum production increases. Acne tends to follow because the excess sebum, dirt and dead skin cells mix together to clog pores.

Since acne is so common you'll easily find a variety of products that can help treat your condition. But, have you ever considered taking the natural approach? By using a natural acne treatment you can actually treat your acne problems while reducing the risk of suffering from unwanted side effects.

Here's a quick look at some effective natural skin care products and recipes that you can test out. Nevertheless, keep in mind that because natural products are more gentle traditional products, they take longer to so be patient.

Homemade Acne Cream

In a mixing bowl add one half a cup of baking soda and one half of water and mix well. Add more baking soda if you think that the mixture is runny or add more water if it is too thick. Once you've completed this step, grate half of a cucumber and add it to the mixture.

In a separate bowl, mash up two apple slices until they form a paste. Add the mashed apple paste to the baking soda mixture. Mix the ingredients well before adding a tablespoon of honey.

Place the mixture in the refrigerator for an hour. After this time, take the bowl out and begin rubbing the mixture on your face. Allow the mixture to settle for up to five minutes before you wash it off with warm water and a washcloth.

Tea Tree Oil - A Natural Acne Treatment

Tea tree oil comes from the Melaleuca alternifoliais tree from Australia. It is very effective against acne as it contains bacteria-fighting substances called "terpenes". Acne is sometimes caused by bacteria which can be weakened and destroyed using terpenes.

Tea tree oil doesn't produce may side effects, however, it can irritate sensitive skin, so be careful.

Treating Acne with Aloe Vera

The watery gel taken from this succulent has proven effective against acne. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and is also very rich in enzymes. Aloe vera can also be ingested so that it cleanses your skin from the inside out.

Use Honey to Kill off Acne Bacteria

Honey is a very common acne treatment that has been used as an anti-bacterial product for centuries. This is because of its low water content and acidic pH level which creates a poor environment for the growth of bacteria.

This is great news for acne sufferers. As previously mentioned, acne is usually caused by bacteria. By applying honey masks, you can help eliminate these bacteria.

Remember that an acne treatment is essential to skin health. Acne isn't just an aesthetic problem, it can actually lead to acne scarring if not treated properly.
